Crossing the Equator
1967 The Polywogs had a character
called "The Giant Squid" who incited
them to take on the Shellbacks prior to the crossing. Each night
the Giant Squid would make Proclamations that resulted in quite a few
Shellbacks getting pummeled unmercifully. The identity of the
Giant Squid has never been proven although I (Phil Carter) got my ass
beat special for it!
